Have you been feeling a bit stifled by your current situation and thinking you might be ready to make a major change? But not exactly sure whether that’s a good idea or complete crazy talk?

Maybe after thinking about it for a while you’re talking yourself out of it, believing things are perfectly fine the way they are now and there’s no need to overturn the apple cart. You’re telling yourself that you can figure out a way to be happy with everything staying just the way they are.

But chances are you’re reading this blog because you know deep down inside if you do keep things the same then burnout, stress and anxiety might become your new norm.

And who wants to live that way for the rest of their lives, risking health issues and true happiness?

If you have a bigger dream in the back of your head, some kind of vision for yourself that’s different from what you are living right now, then read on to find 5 signs your time for change is now and why it’s important to start down the pathway of your new and improved lifestyle right away.

#1: An Unavoidable Urge

Resistance is futile. Lol. That’s a line from Star Trek. (Ok, I’m a geek.)

Nevertheless, it still rings true. Ask me how I know.

First of all, when you begin to feel the urge to start down a new path the excitement is overwhelming!

Then you begin to think about it day and night. You just won’t be able to turn it off.

Ideas will start to flow. You’ll fill up notebooks with them.

You may even start transferring those notes into an application online like OneNote or Asana so you can access them from anywhere with your tablet or phone and keep them organized.

Then you will begin to research how to turn these ideas into reality. Who knows, maybe that’s what brought you here to read this blog.

During my own research days, I took a course to help create change in life. My instructor spoke about her own experience feeling a tug that kept pulling her in the direction of making a major change.

Eventually it became such a strong feeling that she could no longer ignore it, so she quit her long time career to follow the new opportunity of helping others make major changes in their lives too.

I did the same. I had such an urge to work for myself, I took the plunge.

Once I was not resistant to the idea any longer, an idea came along for a product of my own (called Catwalk Clawz) and then I went down the path of starting my own company.

Life for me completely changed after that!

But what happens if you don’t follow that tug?

Unfortunately, not taking action can lead to stress. Most times we avoid taking action to remain feeling comfortable or “good.”

Although if we decide to not follow our longing, the negative ideas we have about this choice can consume our thoughts, bringing on much anxiety & stress.

And we all know that stress & anxiety are at the root of many health issues that can lead to heart disease, stroke and even cancer.

Unfortunately, my work as a sales person caused too much stress that affected me at the early age of 39. I experienced high blood pressure and high cholesterol even though I was a longtime half-marathoner and ate healthy.

So if you have an urge or tug that just won’t go away, this can be a major sign change is due before it leads to bad health.

#2: Your Career Has Plateaued

How long has it been since you’ve gotten a substantial increase in your income?

What about the prospects of moving into a higher position?

After a long time spent in the same work, you may find that you’ve exhausted all your options for expansion.

If you’re already a senior in the position you’re in, the only way to move up could be higher management. Most times those positions are few and far between and usually occupied by someone else for long periods of time.

And the prospect of moving to another company, sometimes even in another area, can be out of the question, leaving you stuck right where you are.

When this happens, we can lose excitement for work. We no longer find it easy to pop out of bed in the morning. Our ideas and creativity can feel stifled or just become non-existent.

We’re not beings that are meant for this.

We enjoy growth. It brightens our days, lifts our spirits, and gives us something to look forward to.

If any of this is ringing true to you, this can certainly be a sign you’re ready for something new that will support a more free and fulfilling lifestyle. A change can be right around the corner.

Welcome it!

#3: Everything Is Too Perfect

Ok, bear with me on this one.

You’re probably thinking if everything is so perfect, why in the world would you want to change it?!?

Well if you’re anything like me and you love to work on improving yourself, your life, and even your environment, you could get bored just sitting around in a “too perfect” world.

Life is messy. And it’s meant to be messy.

That’s what gives us appreciation for all we see and experience.

That’s what makes us stronger and wiser.

That’s what brings us excitement.

So if things are “just right” and you’re past spending the time basking in its perfect-osity, then it could be a sign it’s time to shake things up a little bit.

#4: Activities Aren’t Fun Anymore

Life is all about working so we can enjoy our favorite activities after work or on the weekends, right? We work to live!

Well what happens if those activities are no longer fun?

Maybe those neighborhood concerts are still hosting the same bands that you’ve heard over and over again, leaving you starving for some new sounds.

Or the parks, resorts, and favorite fishing spots have become far too crowded to find some peace and quiet.

What about just plain growing out of certain activities too?

Maybe playing pool in those creekside bars or laying by the pool with drinks in hand just aren’t the right fit for you anymore.

Or your body’s just not bouncing back well anymore from flailing all over the place on skis or mountain bikes.

So what’s left.

Whatever your dreams are made of, that’s what!

Our dreams don’t steer us wrong.

It’s what will light us up and make us feel alive again.

If you’re feeling bored with activities you’ve enjoyed in the past, there’s your sign to find and follow a new path.

That way your boredom won’t lead you to binge watching too many Netflix shows or consume one too many cocktails.

#5: You’re Feeling Lost

We can change over time.

Our skills improve, our likes and dislikes evolve, our personalities can grow and develop.

Once that happens, we can wake up one day feeling a bit out of place with our lives.

The older we get, the more contemplation of where we are and where we are going in life happens.

What if where we are is nowhere close to where we’d like to be? Everything feels a little off center.

We look around and discover the people and circumstances we are currently surrounded by no longer fit our dreams and aspirations.

It’s ok to lovingly and graciously be appreciative of everything that’s gotten you to this place but at the same time, move on to another portion of your life.

If you don’t, it’s possible that you can begin to feel tired all the time, sleep too much, and not be present for your loved ones.

If expansion feels natural to you, you love to grow and improve, you’re not afraid to become a new version of yourself, then HECK YEAH it’s your time for a change!
